Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!
On March 4, a 2½-year-old domestic short hair called Blackie was shot in the back. The cat's owner, Gene Morrill, of Portsmouth, noticed his cat was acting strange and brought it to the veterinarian.
Dr. Morton Schimidt, a veterinarian at Lafayette Animal Hospital, found a hole in a muscle in the cat's back, according to Morrill.
Schimidt confirmed that an X-ray showed a BB pellet lodged in one of Blackie's vertebrae.
"It just missed the spinal cord," he said.
Portsmouth Animal Control Officer Patricia Tate said the investigation is ongoing, but would not comment on any particulars of the case.
Keene encourages the public to remain alert and to bring "companion animals inside when an abuser is on the loose." If you have information on this case, please contact: Portsmouth Police Department
