Dog starved for more than 2 weeks
Troy, NY (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Apr 6, 2003
County: Rensselaer

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Jaime L. Trotter

A city woman has been charged with animal cruelty after not feeding her dog for more than two weeks following a fight with her boyfriend.

According to Animal Control Officer Kevin McDonough, Jaime L. Trotter, 26, of 20 11th St., left her apartment at the beginning of the month after getting in a fight with her boyfriend. She did not return during the weeks that followed to feed her black and brown, female Rottweiler.

McDonough said Troy police received a call earlier this week about the situation, and he picked up the dog on Tuesday. McDonough, along with Community Police Officer Jim Bottillo, were the arresting officers.

Inside the locked apartment was the starving animal, which had gone without food or water since April 6. There were also feces throughout the residence.

"Her and her boyfriend got into a spat at the beginning of the month, and she decided to leave," McDonough said.

"Apparently he left also, and no one was taking care of the dog. We picked it up on April 22 and took it to the animal shelter. If it checks out OK, it will be put up for adoption."
Trotter is charged with not providing water and food to the dog. Her case has been adjourned until a later date.
