The six month old Labrador mix was left for dead in a strip mine near Carbondale. The veterinarian treating it said someone intentionally broke the puppy's front legs. An officer with the Humane Society believes they were smashed with a baseball bat. "You can't do this," said Officer Sandy Boysha. "It's difficult to see what people do to animals, even children. People who take their frustrations out because they can't fight back."
Dr. Joseph Pannick believes the dog had been in the pit for as long as a week before being found. "It looks like this dog has had these fractures for a period of time, maybe up to a seven day period," said Dr. Pannick.
The puppy will eventually be put up for adoption by the Humane Society.
