Alleged: Nathan Stephens
An Orleans County man is charged with animal cruelty after being accused of leaving puppies in a a hot car while shopping at an area mall.
Monroe County Sheriff's deputies charged Nathan Stephens, 47, of Holley with animal abuse, three counts of confinement of a companion animal in a vehicle, and aggravated unlicensed operation. Another shopper noticed the three puppies in the car parked outside the Eastview Mall outside Rochester.
The temperature outside was around 70 degrees at 8 p.m. when the sheriff's department was notified.
Stephens faces three counts of animal cruelty and the puppies were sent to the local Humane Society.
