County: Middlesex

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: William Luke McDowell

A man and a teen were charged Saturday with animal cruelty in connection with the beating death of a duck.

William Luke McDowell, 18, of 230 Hicks Road in Lexington, is charged with one count of animal cruelty, according to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office. A teen, whose name is not being released because he is a minor, is also being charged with a juvenile petition, the sheriff's office reported. That case is being referred to juvenile services.

The incident was reported to have occurred on Hampton Road.

The sheriff's office learned of the incident on March 21, the agency said.

The incident happened at the younger teen's home, according to officials. McDowell is accused of beating the domesticated duck to death with a baseball bat while the younger teen recorded it on video, the sheriff's office reported.

McDowell was given a bail of $1,000.
