A Crawford County woman named Ronda Hatcher is facing animal cruely charges after state police allegedly discovered 29 dead and dying Holstein cattle in a barn under her operation after being tipped off by Hatcher's neighbors on February 14.
On February 17, police searched the premises at 22771 South Beaver Road in Beaver Township, near Conneautville. Police discovered 21 dead cattle inside the barn, three dead cows outside, and five animals described as "barely alive" by Corporal Lee Formichella.
According to Farm & Dairy online, Formichella stated that the animals appeared to have starved to death and had no feed or water. Formichella said the five cattle found alive "could hardly move" and were euthanized Feb. 17.
Hatcher faces up to $750 in fines and up to 90 days in jail for each of the 29 charges. Hatcher will be sentenced after she completes psychological, drug and alcohol evaluations that should take at least a month.
