Alleged: Dennis Kramer
A man was arrested Friday after investigators rescued 18 dogs from an Alexandria puppy mill in southern Campbell County.
Dennis Kramer was charged with 20 counts of second-degree animal cruelty and is being held at the Campbell County Detention Center.
After several weeks of investigations, authorities said they used satellite images to find Kramer's 14 kennels of Kramer Krift Farm.
The kennels housed 18 dogs that authorities said were covered in feces and soaking wet -- and kept outside in temperatures of about 20 degrees.
"The dogs had no fresh food or water," Sheriff Jeff Kidwell said, "deplorable conditions."
"One of the worst was one of the Great Danes," Kidwell added. "His feet were just all bloody, because he had been walking around in his own urine and feces for so long. And once again it was 21 degrees, now these kennels were at the top of a hill, and the wind out there at that kind of temperature just cut right through you."
If convicted, Kramer faces six to 12 months in jail for each charge, and/or a $500 fine per count.
Investigators raided the puppy mill and rescued the animals Friday at about 2 p.m.
"We believed the evidence warranted further investigation and a visit to the property that resulted in the arrest," Kidwell said.
The dogs, mostly Dalmatians and golden retrievers, were taken to the Kenton County Animal Shelter.
