Disposition: Not Charged

Abuser names unreleased

Patrice Turnquist is mad. The person who shot her 4-year-old lab-pitbull mix named Chocolate is free, while her dog will have a long, complicated road to recovery.

Turnquist, who heads a youth group, was letting one of the kids walk Chocolate on Monday evening. That's when the child accidentally dropped the leash and the dog got loose.

Turnquist claims Chocolate was barking at the gunman, but never touched him. That's when the unidentified man shot Chocolate in the face, fracturing her jaw and causing significant nerve damage.

The gunman claimed self-defense, according to Turnquist. But she says she doesn't buy it. After shooting the dog, Turnquist says the man then bragged about it to her.

The West Palm Beach Police Department is investigating the incident, but in the meantime the man has been given his firearm back.

If you'd like to help pay for Chocolate's surgeries, you can do so by contacting Paws 2 Help at (561) 712-1911.
