Severe dog neglect leading to death Amarillo, TX (US)Incident Date: Wednesday, Sep 6, 2000 County: Potter
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Rodney Jerone Allen
Class A misdemeanor animal cruelty charges have been filed on a Potter County man who reportedly knowingly failed to provide necessary shelter or care for a dog that died from a tick infestation.
Charges were filed against Rodney Jerone Allen, 30, who "intentionally and knowingly" failed to provide necessary shelter or care for the dog that was in his custody, according to a Potter County complaint. The tick infestation resulted in the dog's death in early September.
Sonya Letson, Potter County attorney, said neighbors of Allen complained to the city's animal control office about the condition of Allen's dog, a terrier mix. Letson said animal control officers were not able to get close enough to the dog to determine for certain what its condition was.
The dog was presented to a veterinarian on Sept. 7 for treatment and died shortly after.
Class A misdemeanor can bring one year in jail and / or a fine of up to $4,000, Letson said. References |
