Dog sexually assaulted Westland, MI (US)Incident Date: Sunday, Sep 28, 2003 County: Wayne
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: David Thomson
34-year-old David Thomson faces trial after he waived a court hearing amid allegations he sodomized 3-year-old Sparkles - a female, part-German shepherd - while living at his ex-girlfriend's house.
Police Sgt. Debra Mathews gave this account of the incident:
A 10-year-old girl heard the dog growling in a spare bedroom during the early morning hours of Sept. 28. She believed that her mother's boyfriend was playing video games in the room.
"She peeked into the room and saw him having sex with the dog," Mathews said.
The girl alerted her mother, who also told authorities she saw what happened.
The allegations led to Thomson's arrest on charges of sodomy involving a dog. He could face penalties ranging up to 15 years in prison, if convicted.
A not-guilty plea has been placed in Thomson's court file, and he was released from custody after posting $2,000, or 10 percent of a $20,000 bond.
He returned to Westland District Court on Thursday and waived his preliminary hearing - a decision that sent the case to Wayne County Circuit Court for trial.
The incident was reported to police after the ex-girlfriend took the dog to the Michigan Humane Society to be examined, Mathews said.
Thomson, who works for a home-delivery food company, has been ordered to stay away from Sparkles and the dog's family as he awaits trial. References« MI State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Wayne County, MI
