Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!
A dog in Weatherford, Texas is struggling to survive today. The female dog, now known as "Hope," was discovered on Monday morning on Baker Road.
It was readily apparent that Hope was suffering.
Her tongue was swollen and hanging outside of her mouth, but she was too frightened to allow herself to be captured.
After great effort on the part of several concerned individuals and animal control, the victimized dog was captured. The severity of her injuries soon became apparent - someone had used tape to clamp her mouth shut and in the process, they left her tongue trapped outside of her mouth.
Hope's closed muzzle and her inability to use her tongue nearly claimed her life.
Dogs do not sweat like people - instead, they use their tongues to help their body cool down. Unable to use her tongue to pant, Hope's body temperature rose to a life-threatening 105.7 degrees.
According to Dr. Buchanan with the Bowie Drive Animal Hospital, Hope will likely lose a portion of her tongue because it was secured outside of her mouth for so long.
Hope's injured tongue and elevated body temperature were not her only issues. The veterinarian also discovered numerous gashes on her body - enough that 100 stitches were required to suture her back together.
Right now, the Parker County Sheriff's Office is looking for the person responsible for this horrific case of animal abuse. Anyone with knowledge about this case is urged to call 817-594-8845 or Crime Stoppers Hotline at 817-599-5555.
