The Panhandle Equine Rescue is working to save the life of a horse they seized from a Walnut Hill couple over the weekend.
The four-year old mare named "Bootsy" was removed from a property on Jake's Road.
The rescue organization says the horse was living off of whole corn and saltine crackers
Bootsy was severely dehydrated and almost 300 pounds underweight.
The owner voluntarily surrendered the horse.
The case is being investigated by Escambia County Animal Control.
No charges have been filed against the horse's owner.
