County: 800 Bustleton Pike

Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Joy Bohannon

A Pennsylvania court has found a Georgia woman guilty of selling animals in a public place without a license and for failure to have interstate health certificates after she sold a sick puppy that later died.

Joy Bohannon, of Pembroke, Georgia, owner of Georgia Animal Rescue and Defence (GARD) had been charged in Bucks County with multiple dog law violations after she was found selling a sick dog at a Richboro pet store. She was assessed $500 in fines plus court costs.

Bohannon, who sells dogs in Pennsylvania and New Jersey that are brought up from crowded shelters in the South under the name Love to Live, was cited by the Bucks County dog warden on March 8, 2012, with three counts of dog law violations.

On January 15, 2012, Bohannon sold a sick, 10-to-12-week-old puppy at the Richboro Pet Valu store. The puppy was diagnosed with pneumonia and Coccidia and two weeks later had to be humanely euthanized after succumbing to distemper. The buyer reported she received no interstate health certificate or complete medical records signed by a licensed veterinarian, only a hand-written document alleging the puppy had been vaccinated. The buyer incurred over $1,800 in vet bills trying to save the puppy's life, but Bohannon refused to refund any money other than the $300 "adoption" fee.

The Love to Live website claims Sergeantsville, NJ as its base, but Bohannon also sells dogs at Rosedale Mills in Pennington, NJ and other PA locations, and is listed as a Pennsylvania out-of-state under the name GARD (not Love to Live).
