Authorities in Tulare County have arrested two men on suspicion of beating a horse with a sledgehammer.
Tulare County Sheriff's officials say 59-year-old Maximo Rodriguez and 50-year-old Martin Padilla were taken into custody on Sunday in Porterville after deputies responded to reports of a horse being hit in the head with a sledgehammer.
Deputies found a white horse tied down to a flatbed trailer in the driveway of a home. It was suffering from head trauma, but was still alive.
Sheriff's officials say Animal Control was contacted, and the horse was euthanized.
Rodriguez and Padilla were booked on suspicion of cruelty to animals.
