County: York

Disposition: Alleged

Abuser names unreleased

Investigators from the York County Sheriff's Office are investigating what they believe is a dog fighting ring in Rock Hill.

Investigators seized or quarantined 30 dogs after getting a tip that dogs were fighting behind a home on Wildcat Creek Road.

According to the Sheriff's Office report, the first deputy to arrive saw a man carrying a black dog by its throat towards the woods.

Later investigators say they found what they described as a dirt dog fighting pit and a badly mauled pit bull just outside the pit located not far from the home.

The injured dogs were taken to York County Animal Control. Nearly 30 other dogs were ordered quarantined at the home.

No arrests have been made as of yet, but the investigation continues.

A woman working in the yard of the house refused to answer any questions.

Neighbors who live on the dead-end street would not give their names and all said they had no idea about dog fights going on.

"I don't know," said one man. "I love dogs. I just lost my little dog and I miss him."

A woman driving by said, "I don't believe in dogs being abused. I've seen it on TV how people do it but I don't really know because I haven't seen it."

Investigators say they are continuing to try to identify everyone who was involved before any arrests are made.

Two suspects are being questioned by the Sheriff's office. It's unclear if any charges have been filed at this time.

If you know anything about the dog fight, you're asked to call York CountyCrime Stoppers at 877-409-4321.
