Charges: Felony CTA
Alleged: Rogelio Rodriguez
Conway police investigators are searching for a man they say tortured a dog by slamming it on the ground and beating its head with a rock.
Rogelio Rodriguez, 29, is wanted on a warrant charging him with aggravated animal cruelty, a felony.
Rodriguez has not been at his East Robins Street residence since the alleged incident on March 13, LaTresha Woodruff, police public information officer, said.
Investigators were alerted when a neighbor of Rodriguez was outside and said he saw Rodriguez torture the dog. The witness reportedly saw Rodriguez "choking and slamming the dog to the ground while hollering profanity."
According to the witness, Rodriguez went back into his trailer and turned the porch light on, leaving the dog on the ground. The witness alleges that Rodriguez then went outside, picked up a large rock and "slammed it on the dog."
Rodriguez then walked back into his residence "like nothing ever happened," the witness told investigators.
Police who arrived at the scene said it appeared that the dog suffered blunt force trauma prior to its death.
Rodriguez told police that the dog had torn up some property inside the residence and had bitten him. Rodriguez was treated for a minor puncture wound, police said.
Cody Hiland, prosecuting attorney, called the charge against Rodriguez "very serious," and said anyone who abuses an animal "has the dangerous propensity for violence toward humans as well."
Anyone with information about the case or Rodriguez's whereabouts is asked to call investigators at 450-6130 or text a tip anonymously to 274637 (CRIMES) using keyword "Conway".
