Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Valentine's Day typically presents the opportunity to express love, kindness, and compassion towards one another. For a dog in Stratford, however, February 14th began quite differently. This past Tuesday, a brown, green-eyed hound mix was found tied up and abandoned on Stratford Avenue in Stratford. "Twiggy," as she has been nicknamed by her caretakers, is, indeed, as frail and as thin as a twig. With countable bones and sparse fur, Stratford Animal Control immediately assessed her to be emaciated, dehydrated, and malnourished.

Twiggy received fluids and recuperative treatments at a local veterinary hospital for a few days. Now she is recovering at the Stratford Animal Control Facility at 225 Beacon Point Road in Stratford. Twiggy will not be available for adoption until Tuesday, February 21st. She is described as a "trusting, sweet, and friendly dog" that needs a loving, accommodating home where she can continue to regain strength and health.

Until her adoption date, the Stratford Animal Rescue Society, or STARS, is accepting tax-deductible donations on Twiggy's behalf. Mail a donation to P.O. Box 1371, Stratford, Connecticut, 06615, or submit an online donation at the Stratford Animal Rescue Society's website. A "donate" link can be found at the bottom of the home page.

If you recognize Twiggy or have any information about her original home or owner, please contact (203) 385-4068 or

No animal deserves to be starved and neglected. Perhaps Twiggy will find her Valentine after all. Until then, with the help of her caretakers at the Stratford Animal Control Facility, she will rest, safe from harm, as she awaits Cupid's arrival.
