County: Hartford

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Adam R. Lacey

A man was charged with cruelty to animals last week after he punched his girlfriend's dog in the stomach. Police said the couple was fighting when Adam Lacey, 21, punched the 70-pound Labrador retriever, twice.

Lt. Eric Peterson said the dog became excited and was jumping up and down when Lacey threw the punches. The dog, Beckham, was not injured; however Lacey is scheduled to appear in the Superior Court in Bristol on April 19.

The March 15 dispute took place on Forestville Avenue and police said Lacey was charged not only with animal cruelty, but also third-degree criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, and weapons in a vehicle.

Police found two swords in Lacey's car.

Police said Lacey had left the house when they arrived, but officers caught up with him and placed him under arrest.
