Three teenaged boys -- two 17 years old and one 16 -- have been charged with beating a Jack Russell terrier and throwing it against a brick wall in the 900 block of Sewall Avenue early in the morning of Jan. 4, 2003.
The dog, which is being called Lucky, was in a coma for three days and temporarily blinded but has recovered with the help of veterinarians, the Monmouth County branch of the Associated Humane Societies in Tinton Falls and the state Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Police arrested two of the boys Thursday and believe they'll shortly take the third into custody, said Detective Capt. Mark Kinmon yesterday. The boys are charged with cruelty to animals.
A resident who intervened when the boys were about to throw cinder blocks on top of the seemingly lifeless dog was credited by police and animal advocates with saving the dog's life.
On Jan. 7,2004, the AHS offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the teenagers' arrest. On Wednesday, a call made to the SPCA resulted in police identifying the boys.
The two boys taken into custody were released to their parents. The matter has been forwarded to the juvenile division of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office. References« Back to Search Results
