Two dogs were abandoned on the side of the road in Danville on Thursday morning, according to police.

Witnesses said the dogs, a poodle mix and a dachshund mix, were pushed out the passenger door of a truck at about 9 a.m. near the intersection of Twin Bridges Road and Sandown Road.

Witnesses said the driver was a white man wearing a black cap. He was driving a Chevrolet or Dodge pickup truck.

He then drove onto Sandown Road and headed toward Main Street.

Officers collected the dogs shortly after.

They were dirty and in need of care and taken to the NHSPCA, police said.
