A federal grand jury in Chattanooga has handed down a 52-count indictment for charges involving "
The allegations say the violations occurred at the annual National Walking Horse Trainers Show held in March 2011 in Shelbyville Tenn; at the Spring Fun Show held in May 2011 in Shelbyville, Tenn.; and at the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration in August and September 2011.

If convicted, the men face a maximum term of three years in prison for each felony count and up to one year in prison for each misdemeanor.

Case Updates

The Tennessee Walking Horse trainer at the center of an undercover video showing soring abuse has had his license revoked from an industry organization.

The Shelbyville-based Tennessee Walking Horse Trainers Association held an emergency board meeting by telephone Thursday to revoked Jackie McConnell's license, a board member said Friday.

The video,
McConnell and three others face a 52-count federal indictment in Chattanooga on charges of violating the Horse Protection Act. Soring is illegal under state and federal law. McConnell has filed paperwork with the court stating that he intends to plead guilty to one count of the indictment.

Association board member Link Webb said Friday that the organization was going to wait to decide what to do with McConnell's license until the outcome of his court case.

But after the video aired on Nightline, the association decided to take action, Webb said.

In addition, the association's board expects to meet Wednesday to adopt a set of education standards needed before obtaining a trainer's license, Webb said. The new rules will likely include a requirement that trainers pass a class on the Horse Protection Act, he said.
