Cockfighting - 50 birds seized Escondido, CA (US)Incident Date: Sunday, Feb 26, 2012 County: San Diego
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Martin Flores Padron
A 39-year-old man was arrested for arranging a cockfight in Escondido Sunday, police said.
Martin Flores Padron admitted to hosting a cockfight after being questioned by police and was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty, cockfighting, and being in the country illegally, Escondido Police Sgt. Chris Lick said.
A neighbor tipped off police about the illegal operation about 8 a.m. in a remote house on the 1500 block of La Honda Drive, about a mile north of El Norte Parkway in Escondido. The neighbor told police that he could hear the cockfight from his house, a large property with a lot of open space and avocado trees, Lick said.
Officers arrived at the initial stages of the cockfight. Almost all of the people watching and betting on the fight fled the property as soon as police officers arrived, Lick said.
Officials from the San Diego Humane Society took custody of about 50 roosters that were involved in the cockfight. References |
