Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!
The Southern Pines Animal Shelter is seeking information on the owner of a severely abused dog.
The dog, who they named Justice, was brought to the shelter Tuesday by Hattiesburg Police Animal Control. It was found in the 700 block of Tatum Road. Shelter Office Manager Kathy Sammons says Justice was severely malnourished and had a strap around its neck that had grown into the skin. The dog was in such bad shape that it had to be put to sleep.
Sammons is asking that if anyone has information on who may have owned the dog to contact the shelter at 601-544-6632. She says if they find out who the owner is they intend on pressing charges under the new animal cruelty law passed last year.
"The law was passed over the summer and animal cruelty is a criminal offense, said Sammons. "Basically the basics of the animal cruelty law is an animal must have food, shelter, and water available at all times. If there is a dog chained to someone's tree in their backyard with out shelter that is animal cruelty."
Sammons says that if you see a case of animal cruelty call your local law enforcement agency and keep calling until something is done about it.
If you have any information on the owner please contact Southern Pines Animal Shelter at (601) 544-6632.

Note: Classifications and other fields should not be used to determine what specific charges the suspect is facing or was convicted of - they are for research and statistical purposes only. The case report and subsequent updates outline the specific charges. Charges referenced in the original case report may be modified throughout the course of the investigation or trial, so case updates, when available, should always be considered the most accurate reflection of charges.
