An animal welfare group says they were called in after a South Los Angeles weapons raid turned up disfigured roosters believed to be used in cockfighting.
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals LA President Madeline Bernstein says three roosters were found Tuesday with their combs and wattles cut off.
The three roosters were individually housed and their injuries are consistent with birds used for cockfighting.
The animals were seized and will be examined.
Bernstein says animal cruelty complaints are often intertwined with other criminal activity.
Bernstein says the independent, nonprofit animal welfare organization is called on by Los Angeles police routinely on cases of animal cruelty. References |
