Deputies were dispatched to a residence located in the 23500 block of Cowie Avenue, in the unincorporated county area known as Good Hope, reference a report of a large crowd on the premises accompanied by the sound of gunshots.

Deputies arrived on scene and observed a large number of male subjects fleeing the property over the rear perimeter fence. While conducting a welfare check of the premises, deputies contacted the property owner identified as Jesus Salazar (age 53). When contacted, Salazar was attempting to conceal several dead roosters in a trash receptacle. Numerous other items were located at the scene indicating Salazar was allowing and performing illegal cock fighting activities on the property.

Riverside Animal Control officers responded to the scene and collected twenty-one deceased fighting cocks and approximately one-hundred and twenty-five live fighting cocks. Salazar was subsequently arrested and later transported to the Southwest Detention Center, located in French Valley, and booked for the following Penal Code violations:

597 (b) PC - Animal Cruelty
597b(b) PC - Illegal Cock Fighting
597i (a) PC - Possession of Cock Fighting Instruments
