Alleged: Savannah Smith
A Pittsburg woman was arrested after four dogs were found at her home malnourished and three more were found dead.
At about 3 p.m. on Thursday, Pittsburg Police and Animal Control officers received an anonymous call about the welfare of dogs at 201 W. 18th St. in Pittsburg.
Officers found two "severely malnourished" dogs penned in the backyard, according to a police report. The owner of the dogs, who was not home at the time of the officers' arrival, was located and came to the home.
Upon further investigation, officers found two more dogs in the home, also appearing to be malnourished. Three puppies were found dead in a basement area, as well.
Animal Control officers took the four living dogs to the Pittsburg Animal Shelter for care and treatment, where they will remain pending the investigation.
The dogs' owner, Savannah Smith, 21, was charged with seven counts of cruelty to animals, and the investigation will continue.
