A reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who killed a 14-year-old cocker spaniel has been increased to $2,600, thanks to the Humane Society of the United States.

On Dec. 2003, the dog owners came home from vacation to find their dog, "Lady Bug" had been shot with an arrow in the abdomen and left to die.

According to Payson Police Lt. Don Engler, family relatives entered their home on North McLane Road without permission and had a party with a group of 30 people.

"This case is extremely disturbing," Humane Society of the U.S. (HSUS) Program Coordinator for the Southwest office, Melissa DeLoach said in a press release. "This was a calculated action committed to watch a living creature suffer. Anyone capable of such cruelty could easily turn that violence to people. It's very likely that several witnesses saw this attack and we're urging them to come forward."

Investigating officer, Joni Varga, said it probably took eight hours for the dog to die.

"There was a trail of blood all around the yard leading back to the dog house where she went to die," Varga said.

Engler said police are continuing their investigation.

The reward money put up by the HSUS in addition to the reward put up a local dog lover, brings the total reward money to $2,600.
