Dog breeder charged with 26 counts of animal cruelty
Pittstown, NY (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Jan 1, 2012
County: Rensselaer

Charges: Misdemeanor
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Laurie Hussey

A Rensselaer County dog breeder has been charged with 26 counts of animal cruelty.

State police told NewsChannel 13 that Laurie Hussey, of Pittstown, was allowing her dogs to live in deplorable conditions, all 26 of them living with her and her young daughter, inside their house on Croll Road.

The animals, according to Brad Shear of the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, were matted with feces and urine.

All of the animals have been removed to the humane society in Menands, where they've been treated by a veterinarian and will be put up for adoption in a couple of weeks.

"They're all covered in fleas. A lot of them are dehydrated. A lot of them have ear mites, which is very unusual in dogs, much more common in cats. We have one that has very advanced glaucoma and the eye is probably going to have to be removed," said Shear.

Hussey also faces one count of "child endangerment" for allowing her daughter to live in the filth.

All charges are misdemeanors. Hussey has an appearance ticket for Pittstown court later this month.
