Charges: Felony CTA
Defendant/Suspect: Dustin R. Wells
A SW Portland man accused of killing a Yellow Labrador puppy named Jake was sentenced today to jail time and barred from owning pets for 15 years.
Oregon Humane Society Officers cited the individual for aggravated animal abuse in May after finding evidence that he had beaten and kicked his three-month-old puppy to death and then placed the body in the garbage.
Dustin R. Wells, 27, living in an apartment at SW Grover St. in Portland at the time of the puppy's death, today pleaded no contest to felony animal abuse. His sentence includes five days in jail, two years of probation, 80 hours of community service and a prohibition on owning domestic animals for 15 years. Wells was indicted earlier by a grand jury after an eye-witness provided testimony of the alleged abuse. Jake's body was never recovered.
