The man accused of running a dog-fighting ring in Sulphur Springs made his first appearance in court Tuesday, January 12, 2004. A judge ordered Rikky Alan Johnson held on $8,000 bond and told him not to be around animals again.

Tampa police arrested Johnson on Monday January 11 after Animal Services spotted a collapsible fighting ring in his yard at 8107 N. Elmer. Animal Control took seven pit bulls into custody. Johnson is only the second person in the county to be charged under a new law making this crime a felony.

Johnson is being charged with the�following:

- 3rd Degree Felony charges for Operation of a Facility for
Baiting/Fighting Animals

- 3rd Degree Felony charges for Training Fighting Dogs
