more information on voting
When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.
Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "Peoples Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isnt enough.
Dog shot at Baldwin Park, CA (US)Incident Date: Wednesday, May 25, 2011 County: Los Angeles
Charges: Felony Non-CTA Disposition: Convicted
Defendant/Suspect: Carleton Raye States
A Baldwin Park man was sentenced Friday to six years in state prison for shooting at his neighbor's dog, which began barking after he taunted it.
West Covina Superior Court Judge Douglas Sortino imposed the term on Carleton Raye States, 31, who was convicted Oct. 5 of one count each of discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, having a concealed firearm and child abuse.
States taunted the dog as his 7-year-old neighbor was playing outside her home May 25. He drew a handgun, prompting the girl to run inside her house, authorities said. States fired a round at the dog, a female terrier mix named Smalls, which also ran inside the home.
Authorities said States followed the girl and the dog inside the home, pointed a gun at the girl as she held the dog in her lap and threatened to shoot the animal. References |
