On September 25, 2003, Officer Kelly Seymour, Animal Cruelty Investigator for Sandusky County received a complaint that a neighbors puppy had no shelter available and the pup was continually left outside.� Upon investigation, Officer Seymour gave warning to pet owners to provide water and shelter for the pup at all times.� Pet owners gave verbal understanding.� On November 28, 2003, a follow up complaint was made in regards to the pup still not having any shelter or water.� Again, she went back to the residence.� Officer Seymour gave the pet owners a 24 hour notice to provide shelter, which they did meet.� Then, again on December 2, 2003, a neighbor called to report that she had witnessed the dog owner repeatedly punching the pup in the head with a closed fist.� Immediately, Officer Seymour requested a search warrant to seize the dog.� The dog was seized and citations wrote.�
2/12/04 Case was dismissed upon condition he did not own any companion animals for a period not less than 10 years. Custody of the dog was give to the Humane Society of Sandusky County. Case UpdatesDonald Leonard pled guilty to the charge of animal cruelty. A deal was made that he give up his rights to own any animals for the next five years, relinquish ownership of the dog in question, and the fine and jail time would be suspended. He was also placed on probation for the next five years.
