County: AugustaDisposition: Alleged
Alleged: Rana McCormick
On Monday Amy Hammer, an animal control officer with the Staunton Police Department, responded to a residence in the 100 block of Hays Avenue after the landlord of the house in question called authorities.
According to a police report, 26-year-old Rana McCormick hadn't paid her rent for October or November. When the landlord went to the home on Monday to serve an eviction notice, he said McCormick's two cats immediately darted toward him after he walked through the front door.
The home reportedly reeked of feces and urine, and police said there were no litter boxes, food or water. Several empty bags of cat food were found in the home.
Staunton police spokeswoman Lisa Klein said it appeared that McCormick moved from the home, leaving her pets behind. The water to the residence was turned off Nov. 1, she said.
McCormick faces two charges of inadequate care and two charges of failing to vaccinate her cats.

Note: Classifications and other fields should not be used to determine what specific charges the suspect is facing or was convicted of - they are for research and statistical purposes only. The case report and subsequent updates outline the specific charges.
