County: Maricopa

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Desiree Nicole Murdock

A Chandler woman was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after police found two cats living in filth at her apartment as they arrested her on suspicion of disorderly conduct and assault stemming from a fight with her boyfriend.

The woman's boyfriend was transported to a Chandler hospital early Thursday morning after a suicide attempt, where he told an employee that Desiree Nicole Murdock, 22, punched him in the stomach before he drank dish washing liquid, court documents state.

The hospital employee saw a red mark on his stomach consistent with his story. Police were contacted and talked to Murdock's boyfriend at the hospital before arriving at Murdock's apartment near Chandler Boulevard and Price Road to arrest her on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct.

While at the apartment, police found two cats living in a dark, confined laundry room with no water, a foul smell, and a litter box filled with feces and urine.

Murdock told police one of the cats belonged to her and she was "grounding the cat" for climbing on the kitchen counter, reports state.
