County: Chesapeake City

Charges: Felony CTA
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Angelo Michael Stango

A Norfolk man was charged this week with killing a cat after it got locked in his truck, according to court records.

Angelo Michael Stango, of the 8600 block of Glen Myrtle Ave., was charged Monday with felony animal cruelty and is scheduled to appear in Chesapeake General District Court on Nov. 14.

According to a search warrant affidavit filed in Norfolk, Stango was at his girlfriend's house on Woodgate Arch in Chesapeake on Sunday. He packed his truck to go home, put the cat in the truck and went back inside to change clothes, the affidavit says.

"He then returned to his truck to find all four doors locked."

While waiting for AAA to respond, he repeatedly said he planned to kill the cat, his girlfriend later told Chesapeake police.

After the truck had been opened by AAA, the girlfriend said, Stango grabbed the small black-and-white cat by its throat, walked to nearby woods and twisted its neck, the affidavit said.

After his girlfriend refused to let him back in the house, he went back to the woods, picked up the cat, and drove away, the affidavit said.

A Chesapeake Animal Control officer searched his apartment looking for the cat's body, but did not seize anything, court records say. A spokesman for the Police Department said Animal Control did not want to reveal whether they had located the cat.
