Alleged: Dervaughn Turner

Humane Society officials say Dervaughn Turner, 38, was arrested for knowingly housing dogs used for fighting. Turner was indicted on September 20 on charges of engaging in animal fighting, animal cruelty, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

D.C. Police recovered a gun at a home in the 4500 block of Clay Street in Northeast and called on Humane law enforcement officers to investigate a report of dogs used for fighting at the home. The Humane Society found three dogs, along with dog-fighting paraphernalia, at the home on January 17. Two of the dogs received thousands of dollars worth of treatment by veterinarians for injuries.

Note: Classifications and other fields should not be used to determine what specific charges the suspect is facing or was convicted of - they are for research and statistical purposes only. The case report and subsequent updates outline the specific charges. Charges referenced in the original case report may be modified throughout the course of the investigation or trial, so case updates, when available, should always be considered the most accurate reflection of charges.
