Ducks shot with BB gun
Jacksonville, FL (US)

Incident Date: Friday, Oct 14, 2011
County: Duval

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Ronald Eugene Reiner

Ducks were defecating on a Jacksonville man's property, so Friday they were shot and the fed-up 52-year-old was arrested, Jacksonville police said.

Ronald Eugene Reiner was taken into custody after a neighbor on North Taurus Circle reported witnessing him firing at the ducks near a pond and seeing "feathers flying" after they were hit, according to the arrest report.

The neighbor also provided police with a photograph of the man shooting the ducks, and an officer found feathers on the ground.

The police report did not say if any of the ducks were killed, although the animal cruelty charge against Reiner includes "intentionally causes cruel death/unnecessary suffering."

When confronted about what the witnesses saw, Reiner responded that he could do "whatever he wanted" on his own property and was trying to keep the ducks for making a mess with their waste, the report said.

Reiner, who police said smelled of alcohol, showed officers a BB gun, which was confiscated during his arrest. He was released on $25,000 bail Saturday, according to the jail website.
