Two dogs tethered, left to starve
Sarasota, FL (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Oct 12, 2011
County: Sarasota

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Jimmie Lee Davis

A Sarasota man is accused of mistreating and abandoning his two dogs.

Sheriff's deputies arrested Jimmie Lee Davis, 38, of the 3000 block of 31st Way, on Wednesday on charges of cruelty to animals and abandonment of animals.

Relatives of Davis claimed he failed to provide shelter for Solo, a pit bull, and Diamond, a pit bull puppy, even when offered a free doghouse. They told deputies Davis would become abusive toward them whenever they tried to intervene on behalf of the pets.

Davis reportedly left the dogs tethered at the 31st Way house for an unclear amount of time after moving to another home where he said dogs were not allowed.

Deputies say they found the dogs confined in a dirt area surrounded with feces. The puppy was reportedly malnourished and without access to water. At the Animal Services shelter, an examination revealed that both impounded dogs had to be treated for parasites.
