Pet bird decapitated
Lincoln, NE (US)

Incident Date: Friday, Jul 1, 2011
County: Lancaster

Charges: Felony CTA
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: 9 Year Old Girl

A 9-year-old Lincoln girl is accused of felony animal cruelty and criminal trespassing for allegedly going into a neighbor's house and decapitating a pet bird.

Officer Katie Flood said police were called to a disturbance July 1 on South 28th Street where the girl's father said she had run away from him and got into the neighbor's house through an unlocked door while the neighbor was out.

The girl eventually came out, and he took her home.

He told police his daughter said inside the house she had killed two pet birds with her hands "because she hates animals and wanted them to die," Flood said.

The neighbor came home to find one of her zebra finches dead outside of its cage in an upstairs bedroom. The second bird was alive.
