Dog shot to death
Onalaska, WA (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Sep 6, 2011
County: Lewis

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Michael Allen Goad

A 50-year-old Onalaska man accused of shooting and killing his neighbor's dog on Sept. 6 in the 100 block of Tillie Road remains behind bars after bailing out of jail and allegedly threatening to kill a neighbor and burn down his house in the 100 block of Harvest Moon Drive on Sept. 20.

Michael A. Goad is also accused of making a bomb threat at the Valley View Health Center in Chehalis on Feb. 17.

Goad has been held in custody on a $250,000 bond following his Sept. 20 arrest, for which he was charged with felony harassment and trespassing.

Goad is charged with first-degree animal cruelty on suspicion of killing his neighbor's dog, a 7-year-old Labrador and Great Pyrenees mix named Samson.

Goad has not yet entered a plea to any of the charges in the three separate cases. He has been ordered by judges in Lewis County Superior Court to undergo mental competency evaluations before doing so.

On Thursday, Goad appeared in superior court on the felony harassment case and refused to participate in the arraignment hearing by sitting in the jury box with his back to the judge.

Donna Crocker, who claims Goad shot her dog, attended the hearing to learn his fate.

"He told me he was going to kill me and my dog plenty of times," Crocker said. "He's my neighbor."

Samson was one of two dogs owned by Crocker. She considered him her "stud dog" and bred him for his blue eyes.

On Sept. 6, after running errands, Crocker returned to her home off Burnt Ridge Road and found Samson dead in her front yard, according to court documents.

A man who was at her home while she was away said he saw Goad drive into Crocker's driveway in his red pickup truck. Goad got out of his truck and yelled at the dogs and fired three shots -- out of sight -- with a gun that sounded like a .22-caliber rifle, according to court documents.

The dogs stopped barking after the gun shots, the man said.

After executing a search warrant, sheriff's deputies found an air rifle with a scope on Goad's property and several air rifle pellets.
