Two men were arrested following the fatal shooting of three farm animals in Woodruff Thursday, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said a llama and donkey were shot to death in a pasture near Racetrack Road and Brown Kennedy Road at the Lazy K Farms, and another donkey was shot several times but survived.

Another donkey was fatally shot later Thursday at 720 Waddell Road in Woodruff, according to deputies.

A neighbor told deputies that he heard around 15 to 20 gunshots around midnight Thursday and then heard a vehicle with a loud muffler drive slowly down the road next to the pasture. The neighbor did not see the vehicle.

Each animal received multiple gunshot wounds, according to the animal cruelty report.

The condition of the surviving female donkey is not known at this time.

In the report, the animals' owner said the estimated value of the damage is $2,200.

Brandon Kelly Thomas, 21, and Anthony Jerome Waters, 17, both of Woodruff, were charged with two counts of animal torture each. The two counts each are for the deaths of all three animals.

The sheriff's office said Friday that Thomas and Waters confessed after deputies received a tip that they were involved.

According to deputies, a .22 caliber rifle was the weapon used to shoot the animals.

Thomas and Waters were arrested Friday morning and are currently held at the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

Case Updates

Spartanburg County deputies say two men already charged with killing a donkey and a llama at a Woodruff farm have now been charged with the fatal shooting of a goat.

Investigators said the owner of the farm saw the goat lying in a field Thursday, the same day he found a donkey and a llama dead on his land. He didn't realize the animal had been shot until the next day when the goat was in the same place. The goat had to be put down.

Deputies say 21-year-old Brandon Thomas confessed to shooting the goat while in jail on charges he shot the donkey and llama. Thomas and a 17-year-old male now face three counts of animal cruelty.

It wasn't clear if Thomas or the teen had an attorney.
