Cat chopped with shovel, set on fire, videotaped
Adelaide, SA (AU)

Incident Date: Monday, Nov 1, 2010

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Adrian Pomorski

Case Updates: 1 update(s) available

A man laughed as he tortured his housemate's cat by "chopping" it with a shovel and setting it on fire, a court has heard.

Adrian Pomorski, 25, of Brahma Lodge, today faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court charged with one count of ill-treating an animal to cause death.

Police prosecutor Bruce Faehrmann said Pomorski had offered to dispose of his housemate's neglected cat this month.

He said his housemate had expected the black cat would be dumped somewhere, but Pomorski instead tortured the animal.

"While it ate, he struck it with the tip of a shovel blade to the shoulder and head region," he said.

He said Pomorski had used a downward chopping action, causing the cat to begin writhing around.

It had then been set on fire.

Sen-Sgt Faehrmann said the attack was recorded on video and Pomorski could be heard laughing as he tortured the cat.

At the time of his arrest, police said a mobile phone which had images of the cat being harmed was seized.

Sen-Sgt Faehrmann told the court Pomorski had since used Facebook to threaten a person who had reported the incident.

Magistrate Alfio Grasso granted Pomorski bail on condition he live with his parents and not contact his housemate or three other people.

He will return to court in January.

Case Updates

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of an Adelaide man accused of torturing a black cat until it died.

Adrian Pomorski, 25, of Brahma Lodge, failed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today on a charge of ill-treating an animal to cause death.

Pomorski allegedly tortured the animal, chopped it up with a shovel and set it on fire in November after offering to dispose of his housemate's neglected cat.

Police allege he recorded it on video on his mobile phone, which they seized during his arrest last year.

Magistrate Mary-Louise Hribal issued the warrant for Pomorski's arrest today.

A warrant was previously issued for Pomorski's arrest after he failed to front court on January 11.

At his last appearance in court in February, Pomorski, who represented himself, said he intended to plead not guilty.
