2 dogs, woman beaten
Bullhead City, AZ (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Sep 6, 2011
County: Mohave

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Brett Daniel Puett

A Bullhead City man was jailed on domestic violence and animal cruelty charges after a reported drinking episode concluded with him attacking his mother and her dogs.

Police say 26-year-old Brett Daniel Puett was drinking a large amount of alcohol Tuesday evening with his brother and some friends in the 800 block of Baseline Road.

At some point, police department spokeswoman Emily Montague said, Puett became very mad at his mother, age 47. When she left the house to get away from him, Montague said, he followed her outside and punched her in the back of the head, knocking her up against a fence.

While she was against the fence, he started slapping her in the face, Montague said.

After the victim fell to the ground and grabbed her two dogs for protection, Montague said Puett went back in the house and began throwing items inside, then went back outside to yell and curse at her mother.

He struck the victim in the face again, and kicked one dog in the side and punched the other dog in the snout, Montague said.

Officers observed a broken picture frame valued at about $80, and swelling and bruising on the victim's eye, she said.

Puett was booked on charges of assault per domestic violence, disorderly conduct per domestic violence, criminal damage per domestic violence and cruelty to animals per domestic violence. He was taken to the Mohave County Jail in Kingman, and held on $1,500 bond awaiting a Sept. 14 hearing.
