more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

Kitten killed for scratching
New Orleans, LA (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Jun 1, 2011
County: Orleans

Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Michael Carlberg

A man got a suspended 30-day sentence and a $300 fine for killing a kitten that scratched him. The LA/SPCA says Michael Carlberg pleaded guilty Aug. 24 to two counts of animal cruelty.

Carlberg allegedly stuffed the kitten's body in a Pringles can and threw it in the trash, but it was retrieved and a necropsy found evidence of abuse, the organization says.

According to the SPCA, Carlberg was reported by a neighbor who was worried because Carlberg still had another cat. It says he was ordered to turn that cat over to the LA/SPCA, and it was adopted out on June 17.
