Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Jefferson County humane officers are looking for the former owner of a 3-month-old beagle mix that was thrown from a moving car.

Humane Officer Beth Fulton said it happened Sunday on Township Road 163, Riddles Run Road, in Yorkville.

"There was a car following a green Grand Am, and they threw a trash bag out of the window, so the car stopped to see what it was and it was a puppy inside," said Fulton.

The beagle, now named Hope, luckily only suffered a bloody nose and is lucky to be alive.

Fulton is hoping to find the person responsible for throwing the dog from the car. She is hoping someone will recognize the dog and call the shelter so that the shelter can press charges.

"It's illegal; it's animal cruelty. It's against animal cruelty laws," she said.

The former owner could face up to six months in jail and up to a $750 fine.

If you have any tips, you can also call the NEWS9's Crimebusters Tipline at 800-862-BUST. It is toll free and anonymous.

Hope is ready for adoption, as are several other animals at the shelter.

Fulton said anyone who is unable to take care of his or her dog can drop it off at the shelter at a cost of $25. Also, the shelter is willing to try to help people who cannot afford food for their dogs.

You can reach the shelter by calling 740-314-5583.
