Monroe, NC (US)

Incident Date: Friday, Aug 19, 2011
County: Union

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: David Thomas Jahn

Three people face drug charges after Monroe police busted a meth lab found in a storage facility.

Monroe police said they received information on Friday that a local storage facility might contain a meth lab.

During their investigation, authorities discovered the lab and then worked to remove the hazardous materials.

The lab was found at the American Store and Lock on Skyway Drive in Monroe, according to reports.

The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation assisted, along with paramedics, Monroe firefighters and the Union County Sheriff's Office.

David Thomas Jahn, Christopher Shane Helms and Darian Starr Levin were each charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of materials used to manufacture methamphetamine.

Levin faces an additional charge of possession of marijuana, police said.

Jahn, 46, also faces a charge of animal cruelty. He was being held in Union County jail Saturday under a $50,000 bond.

Jahn was convicted of manufacturing drugs more than 20 years ago, according to the N.C. Department of Correction.

Helms, 35, was being held in Union County jail Saturday on a $15,000 bond. Records show he was convicted of driving while impaired in 2008.
