2 dogs found dead in cages
Tampa, FL (US)

Incident Date: Friday, Jul 1, 2011
County: Hillsborough

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Treysa R. Sylvester

Animal Service officers arrested a Tampa woman who allegedly abandoned three dogs inside a home with no food or water. Two Hillsborough County Animal Services officers arrested a Tampa woman Monday, saying she abandoned three dogs in a home with no power or water. Two dogs were found dead inside crates and the third dog survived.

The investigation into the case began in July when a neighbor discovered one of the dogs wandering around and notified Animal Services.

Treysa R. Sylvester, 32, of 5126 Springwood Drive, was charged with two counts of animal cruelty and three counts of animal abandonment. She remained at the Falkenburg Road Jail on Tuesday. Bail was set at $5,500.

An arrest affidavit said that Animal Services officers served a warrant at the address Monday and found the animals during a search of the house.

The affidavit said that Sylvester confined the dogs in the house without food or water, "resulting in a cruel death and unnecessary pain and suffering."

The surviving dog is a healthy male border collie. He will be up for adoption at Hillsborough County Animal Services Back To School BARK-A-THON which is being held Tuesday through Saturday. Animal Services is located at 440 N. Falkenburg Road in Tampa.
