Case Updates
| A White Marsh Road man who was found guilty in August of animal cruelty and malicious wounding of a dog had those convictions overturned on appeal Monday. Judge William R. Savage III overturned the convictions because he did not feel the charges had been proven beyond a reasonable doubt, prosecutor Susan Walton said. The incident happened March 11, when McCrory was walking his two dogs in the driveway. His neighbor's 4-year-old boxer escaped from its house. McCrory allegedly said he would shoot the dog if it came into his yard and then did so when the dog crossed the line. The dog suffered injuries to one of its eyes, Walton said. She said the judge felt the man was justified in shooting the dog because he felt threatened in his own yard. |

| A 53-year-old Suffolk man was convicted Thursday in General District Court for shooting his neighbor's dog. Robert McCrory, who lives on Whitemarsh Road, was walking his dogs on the night of March 11, when his neighbor's 4-year-old boxer, Evan, got out of the yard. The boxer's owner saw the gun before the man shot, Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Susan Walton said. There was no contact between the dogs, but McCrory said in court that the boxer had barked at his dogs, Walton said. McCrory was convicted of misdemeanor animal cruelty and misdemeanor malicious wounding of a dog. He was sentenced to one year in jail, all suspended. He'll be on probation for a year, was ordered to be on good behavior and must complete an anger management program, Walton said. |
