Shelter dogs outside in 110 degree heat, one dies

The former manager of the Balch Springs animal shelter was fired this week after city officials said she left a half dozen dogs outside for hours in record heat.

One of the animals, a pit bull mix, was found dead while others showed signs of heat exhaustion.

Ashley Julius was terminated by the city, but police are not pursuing cruelty charges against her. Officials say she was cleaning the kennels and put the dogs outside, but reportedly forgot to bring the them back inside..

The dogs were in 110 degree heat for more than five hours without food or water.
