Raleigh police charged two residents of 6608 Professor St. Friday with animal cruelty after more than 65 dogs were seized from the home over the past two days.
Property records for the home show it belongs to Salvatore and Betty Jane Barone, Carolyn Burnham and Barbara Woodworth.
Carolyn Sue Burnham and Barbara Von Woodworth were each charged with 10 counts of animal cruelty. Each count of the felony charges corresponds to a dog that had to be euthanized after being removed from the residence. Both suspects lived the Professor Street location.
Both were being held Saturday at the Wake County Jail on $100,000 bond.
The Wake County Animal Center said the 67 dogs seized from 6608 Professor St. were kept in cages, sometimes two or three at a time, and appeared neglected. Some dogs had medical problems, including tumors, cancer and open sores, and others were so obese they could not stand on their own.
